Blood Drive Spring 2018The annual FCCLA Blood Drive was held on March 21st in the gymnasium. Thanks to all who participated! NHS took in over 80 units for our second drive of the year. Both drives collected 154 units and qualified NHS a $1000.00 Scholarship to be given to a NHS graduate! Thanks to everyone who participated!

Congratulations to Landon Smith!
 
      At Northwest's first track meet this year, freshman Landon Smith broke the 15-year-old school record for the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:26!
 
Evening with the Arts
 
      Evening with the Arts will take place on May 1st at 5:30 p.m.

      The NHS Track & Field team was very successful at the Minford Invitational Track Meet this past Friday. The boys placed first place and the girls placed second out of 16  teams!  Congratulations Mohawks!!

     Ashley Morgan advanced from FCCLA regionals to state competition with her career investigation project.  She will compete at state on April 26, 2018! Good Luck Ashley!
 
Agricultural Students attend the Ohio Career Development Event
      
      Students in Mrs.Ferguson's Agricultural class competed at the Ohio Career Development Event in General Livestock and Equine.  The students had the opportunity to build the digestive and skeletal system of various animals and dissecting reproductive systems of cattle and sheep.  Students also worked in the greenhouse planting vegetables.

Science Bowl
 
     Science Bowl brought home a third place finish from competition at SSU on March 10, 2018
 
Scioto County Music Festival at Vern Riffe Center for the Arts
 
     Scioto County Music Festival at Vern Riffe Center for the Arts was held on March 6, 2018.  The NHS band members made up over 30% of the Scioto County Honors Band!  Way to go Mohawks.
 
FCCLA Culinary Arts will Compete at State competition
 
      Congratulations to Cody Castle and Heylee Lockhart for competing at the FCCLA Culinary Arts Regionals.  Cody and Heylee brought home a silver medal in product development.  They will comptete at state competition on April 21, 2018!
 
Career Day will be held on April 24, 2018!
 
     NHS is set to host a Career Day on  April 24, 2018!   Ms. Reynolds’ Leadership and Community Involvement class is setting up the career day.  Thanks to all who are involved in helping make this event possible for our students!
 
Shane Runion Concert
 
     Thank you to Shane Runion for performing for our students on March 12, 2018!  The concert was sponsored by Drug Free Clubs of America, Shawnee State University and State Farm Insurance.
 
Army Mobile Experience!
 
     Thank you to the Ohio Army Recruiters for providing NHS students the opportunity to explore the STEM Asset Experience (AS6) on  March 14!  NHS
students had the opportunity to explore an Army mobile command center and to test drive a $90,000 EOD robot.
 
The 2018 Basketball Special Olympics left fans cheering!
 
     The Scioto County special Olympics basketball game was held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in the Northwest High School gym during 5th and 6th periods.

The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Public Safety launched the SaferOH tip line that will accept both calls and texts 24 hours a day for schools that register for the service.  
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts in the Ohio Homeland Security’s Threat Assessment and Prevention (TAP) Unit.

OMEA Solo & Ensemble
Congratulations to the musicians who performed at Solo & Ensemble this past weekend! The performers earned five superior ratings - the highest rating a performance can receive. The musicians also received eight excellent ratings and two good ratings.

College Credit Plus
College Credit Plus has moved up their informational timelines quite a bit.  This is for students who plan on taking courses ON CAMPUS at SSU only.  The meeting will be Monday 11/13 at 6p.  This is a mandatory meeting and will be the only one conducted at NHS.  Please share the attached file with your students.
