World Studies

Required for 9th grade, Requirement for graduation.

World Studies is a study of the history of the world from the Enlightenment era to the present day. As the students study each historical event, they will consider the geographic setting, the cultural perspectives, the economic implications, and the role of the government. This course will educate the students through the use of benchmarks, standards, and indicators that were developed by the Ohio Department of Education. By using the guidelines provided by the Ohio Department of Education, the students will become prepared for the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). This integrated approach to social studies will enable the students to more deeply explore their role as citizens and help them more fully develop their social studies skills. This course is required for all ninth graders and will reflect the content standards tested in the OGT. It is also a requirement for the Award of Merit/Honors diploma.

US Studies (American History)

Required for 10th grade, Requirement for graduation.

U. S. Studies is a study of the history of the United States from 1877 to the present. As students study each historical event, they will consider the geographic setting, the cultural perspectives, the economic implications and the role of the government. This integrated approach to social studies will enable the students to more deeply explore their role as citizens and help them to more fully develop their social studies skills. This course is required for all tenth graders and will reflect the content standards tested in the Ohio Graduation Test. It is also a requirement for the Award of Merit/Honors Diploma.

American Government

Required for Graduation

This is a study of the basic principles, ideas, and inter-relationships of our federal government. This course will begin with an in-depth study of our national government and culminate with a study of the state and local governments. Students will have the opportunity to explore how history, geography, cultural perspectives, economics, and politics affect the development and operation of our federal government and our involvement in the global community. This integrated approach of study will enable the students to more deeply consider their role as citizens and help them to more fully understand issues important to our nation. This A requirement for the Award of Merit/Honors Diploma.

AP Psychology

CP Psychology is an upper level course which offers students the opportunity to prepare themselves for continuing education. Psychology is required at most higher education institutions as a part of their general education. Psychology is the study of behavior and mental processes, and how an organism's physical and mental state, as well as its external environment, affects those processes. This course will reflect the National High School Psychology Standards set forth by the American Psychology Association (APA), as well as the Advanced Placement (AP) testing guidelines*.

World Geography

This study of world geography is a look at the economic, political, social, historical, and cultural aspects of human activity. The course is intended to provide students with a core of knowledge about the world's geographic regions and to relate that knowledge to events in today's rapidly changing world.
