Two Vaccines Required for 7th Grade Students

There are two vaccines required by the Ohio Department of Health for all incoming 7th Grade Students for the FALL of 2016.

• A diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus (Tdap) booster. This immunization needs to have been given no sooner than the child's 10th birthday.

• First Dose of the Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine is a NEW required vaccine for students attending Ohio schools entering 7th Grade in the Fall of 2016.

PLEASE PROVIDE AN UPDATED VACCINE RECORD TO THE SCHOOL as Verification that your child has had the Tdap Booster and the 1st Meningococcal (MCV4) Vaccine.

Immunizations may be obtained from your child's healthcare provider or area clinics. The Scioto County Health Department will be scheduling some immunization clinics this summer to try and accommodate this new immunization requirement. I will keep you posted on any clinics that I find available.

Roby Bach Memorial Scholarship

Roby Bach was a retired principal and teacher from Northwest Local Schools. He loved volunteering in the schools and helping kids. He passed away suddenly on December 25, 2015. We would like to encourage all Northwest staff to support the Roby Bach Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Bach was truely a positive force in his personal and professional life. He was always there to help anyone in need. The money generated for this scholarship will directly help a male and female student from Northwest and New Boston. I know that Mr. Bach would appreciate this generosity directed toward students!

Memorial contributions may be made to the Roby Bach Memorial Scholarship Fund at any US Bank Branch.

Update on Plan for Playground Improvements and Invitation for Comments

As discussed at the Board meeting on May 26, 2016, the District is planning improvements to make its playground areas more accessible to students who have mobility impairments.  The current plan is for Meyer Design to install poured-in-place rubber surfacing in playground areas.  The rubber surface will surround existing play structures and make them fully accessible.  You may click on the following link to view a schematic diagram by Meyer Design of the proposed new play areas and equipment: diagram link.  The work is planned to be completed during the summer break when school is not in session.  No students will be disrupted by the construction work.  The Board welcomes written comments on the plan from interested persons.  Written comments can be submitted either before the June 28th Board meeting.
