Northwest High School instructor, Mrs. Jenifer Arnett, decided that efforts to improve pride and spirit at the high school were in vein and to really make change, it had to start at the elementary. Her "partners in crime" are Ashley Davis (NHS Math Instructor) and Rachel McCall (PTO president). The ES principals and ES staff have been willing to participate and help, Todd Jenkins, Mr. Scarberry and Mr. Burton have been extremely supportive and involved, and of course Mr. Tipton, the coaches, band directors, teachers, etc.! We have way too many things to be proud of not to be yelling from the rooftops! Some of the things that have happened and/or are happening:
On Wednesday, September 17th, Northwest Middle School faculty and students were encouraged to wear gold to support one of our 6th Grade students, Destiny Freeland, who is being treated for cancer at the present time. Gold is the color that represents childhood cancer, and Destiny is presently being treated for Ewing's Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Below, is a picture of all of the NMS students and faculty who wore gold to support Destiny. We would like to send our best wishes to Destiny, and we hope she is back to school soon!
