5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders . . .

CSI: Shawnee Science Camp is a Conservation Science camp held locally at Camp Oyo in July. The camp is a two day and two night affair with lots of great hands on learning opportunities. We are blessed to have the support of The Scioto Foundation and through a generous grant we received we are able to offer this amazing camp to area students for only $30!

Camp registration is open now and we are accepting the first 60 students that register. Also, if you are aware of a student that would enjoy the experience and could greatly benefit from it – but cannot afford the fee, please let me know. We do have a handful of scholarships available through our office.

This camp is focused on giving great experiences and exposing students to Natural Resource Careers through our dedicated professional team of volunteers. Please be sure to share this with the other staff in your schools, and if there is anyone that would like to be added to the mailing list please have them contact me at katesowards@sciotoswcd.org

Best Wishes for a great end of the year and a peaceful summer for each of you!

Two Vaccines Required for 7th Grade Students

There are two vaccines required by the Ohio Department of Health for all incoming 7th Grade Students for the FALL of 2016.

• A diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus (Tdap) booster. This immunization needs to have been given no sooner than the child's 10th birthday.

• First Dose of the Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine is a NEW required vaccine for students attending Ohio schools entering 7th Grade in the Fall of 2016.

PLEASE PROVIDE AN UPDATED VACCINE RECORD TO THE SCHOOL as Verification that your child has had the Tdap Booster and the 1st Meningococcal (MCV4) Vaccine.

Immunizations may be obtained from your child's healthcare provider or area clinics. The Scioto County Health Department will be scheduling some immunization clinics this summer to try and accommodate this new immunization requirement. I will keep you posted on any clinics that I find available.

Summer Engineering Camp

Each summer the Scioto County Career and Technical Center holds a summer engineering camp for local schools as a way of introducing middle school students to the fields of engineering.  The camp is hands-on, project based and is always a lot of fun!  Students participate in projects such as VEX Robotics, 3D software, ice cream sundae assembly lines, water bottle rockets, and much more.  I am in need of help, though, in getting the word out to the local middle school students.

Please visit the following page to view pictures of activities from last year's camp:
