Northwest Middle School News
We proclaim education is important to the lives of all. Our goal is to promote a positive atmosphere and attitude of continual, lifelong learning by providing the tools necessary for that to occur.
There are two vaccines required by the Ohio Department of Health for all incoming 7th Grade Students for the FALL of 2016.
• A diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus (Tdap) booster. This immunization needs to have been given no sooner than the child's 10th birthday.
• First Dose of the Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine is a NEW required vaccine for students attending Ohio schools entering 7th Grade in the Fall of 2016.
PLEASE PROVIDE AN UPDATED VACCINE RECORD TO THE SCHOOL as Verification that your child has had the Tdap Booster and the 1st Meningococcal (MCV4) Vaccine.
Immunizations may be obtained from your child's healthcare provider or area clinics. The Scioto County Health Department will be scheduling some immunization clinics this summer to try and accommodate this new immunization requirement. I will keep you posted on any clinics that I find available.
Each summer the Scioto County Career and Technical Center holds a summer engineering camp for local schools as a way of introducing middle school students to the fields of engineering. The camp is hands-on, project based and is always a lot of fun! Students participate in projects such as VEX Robotics, 3D software, ice cream sundae assembly lines, water bottle rockets, and much more. I am in need of help, though, in getting the word out to the local middle school students. Please visit the following page to view pictures of activities from last year's camp: http://www.bv.k12.oh.us/SummerEngineeringCamp.aspx

Ohio Testing begins first full week of April. Students will need earbuds for the Chromebooks on which they will be testing. If your child doesn't have earbuds, please make sure they have a pair before testing time.
Roby Bach was a retired principal and teacher from Northwest Local Schools. He loved volunteering in the schools and helping kids. He passed away suddenly on December 25, 2015. We would like to encourage all Northwest staff to support the Roby Bach Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Bach was truely a positive force in his personal and professional life. He was always there to help anyone in need. The money generated for this scholarship will directly help a male and female student from Northwest and New Boston. I know that Mr. Bach would appreciate this generosity directed toward students!
Memorial contributions may be made to the Roby Bach Memorial Scholarship Fund at any US Bank Branch.
