Fiftieth Annual NHS Commencement

The Class of 2008 graduated in a ceremony held in the high school
gymnasium on Sunday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. This year's top of the class
were Justin Malone, valedictorian and Chelsey Mullins, salutatorian.
Justin has received the Glockner Scholarship, University Professor's
Scholarship from Shawnee State, McDermott Alumni Scholarship, and
the District 14 Coaches Association Scholarship. Chelsea has received
The Leo Thompson Scholarship and the Mascari/Justice Scholarship.

PICTURE
DVD FOR SALE !
The NHS web design team
is offering a DVD with pictures taken this year. They will not be
edited or cropped, just the original copies. They will be placed in
folders designating the sport or activity the picture was taken for.
The price of the DVD will be $ 10. You must have a DVD drive on your
computer to access the pictures. It is not a movie that you play on
your DVD player. A CD of pictures ( with less no. of pics ) will be
sold for $ 5. The CD's must be paid for in advance and will not be
available until June 5. See Mrs. Moore to order and pay for your DVD
or CD. These pictures will be the originals of the pictures you've
seen on the web page as well as others we didn't use. The pictures
on the web page have been cropped and the resolution lowered so if
you print from the web page, they won't be as good as if you had the
original.
Seaman Wins 2nd Place

Julie Seaman won second place at the County Art Show, last Thursday
May 15, in Black and White Drawing, held at the Southern Ohio Museum
of Art. Congratulations Julie!
Peer Listening
The NHS Peer Listening
class and Mrs.Schuyler's T-1 class enjoyed the sunshine on Friday
by flying their kites that they put together.

Evening With The Arts
The annual “Evening with the Arts”
was held on the Northwest Campus Thursday, April 24th. Students in
grades K-12 were recognized for the excellent contributions to the
arts. Performances in the both instrumental music and vocal music
were held at the High School under the direction of Band instructor’s
Nicholas Basham and Christy Berry. Vocal performances were arranged
by Middle and High School instructor, Patrick Colegrove and Elemntary
voacl teacher Brett Wilson.

2008 John Phillip Sousa Award
Matt
Eichenlaub was awarded the 2008 John Phillip Sousa Award by
Mr. Basham at the band awards ceremony held on May 20. Matt
plans to major in music education to become a band director
at Morehead State University.

is an at home tutor with PowerPoint presentations, eWorkbook,
puzzles and games, online quizzes, etc. It also has an online
textbook. The student must register for a free student account.
It requires the ISBN number from the textbook which is 978-0-618-59402-3.

Achievement
Awards
Sean Penix, Paul
Redoutey, and Timmy Evans have been selected to represent Northwest
High School at the 2008 Buckeye Boys State this summer at Bowling
Green State University.
Paul Redoutey has been selected to particitpate in the Martin
W. Essex School for the Gifted this summer at OSU. The Essex
School is a weeklong residential program that will be conducted
on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Eric Frantz received a $2,000 scholarship from EnergySolutions
Foundation, a scholarship program open to sophomores seeking
a degree in math, science, or engineering.
Rachel Talbert was one of 18 state winners of the American Legion
Americanism and Government test. The winners were awarded a
five day, all expense paid trip to Gettysburg, PA. and Washington,
D.C.
Paul Redoutey was also accepted into the Miami University's
Junior Scholars Program. The program will take place from June
29-August 8, 2008.
