Wow
where do I start? It has been almost six months since this
storm started, and I would not change a thing! God has been
so faithful to us!!! August 6, 2007 was a day we will never
forget. Rodney collapsed on the football field during practice.
He was life flighted to Children's Hospital in Columbus. He
was unable to speak or move his right side. The enemy thought
to crush the Lens' family, but he did not know the army of
prayer soldiers that would arise and go into the battle. It
looked dark when the doctor said this was caused by a cancerous
tumor and not only does one son have it but we have to check
your other son because they are identical twins and it is
a possibility that he may have it too.
August 8th started out with fear for me and I knew that I
had to get alone with my Heavenly Father. He led me to Isaiah
32:6, "For the foolish person will speak foolish... to
utter error against the Lord,..." (and) 2 Corinthians
5:7, "For we walk by faith not by sight."
I walked into my son's ICU room quoting these scriptures over
and over and over. It was the only way I could go in there
without falling apart.

Several mornings later sitting on the side of my bed at the
Ronald McDonald House, praying, telling God that I didn't
understand, God spoke and told me that he would raise Rodney
up. Several weeks later, Rodney wrote on his board that "God
told me in a dream that He was going to raise me up."
Since then, we have gone through 31 treatments of radiation
and pneumonia with pleurisy at the same time. Rodney was so
sick he couldn't eat or drink. He had IV fluids and an NG
tube to help nourish him. Anyone who came into his room left
knowing that he trusted God completely. I told him that I
would gladly take the radiation treatments and the pneumonia
but he said, "NO, this is my battle!"
The pneumonia was not responding to the antibiotic and they
were going to do surgery to remove it one Saturday in September.
The surgery was scheduled and on that day was canceled, God
was touching Rodney and the pneumonia was clearing up. One
doctor said that the surgery had only been postponed, but
I told him that it had been canceled. The doctor did not believe
me.

On October 12th, Life Ambulance flew Rodney from Children's
Hospital and landed him on the 50 yard line at the school on
Senior Night. He got out of the helicopter and walked to the
side line. Praise the Lord!
November 7th we came home from the hospital. On November 19th,
the MRI showed absolutely NO TUMOR! Rodney has done 2 chemo
treatments with 7 more to go. He is still very weak and sick,
but he knows that God has him and our whole family in the very
center of His will!
We wish to Thank everyone for their prayers and support. Where
would we be without the support of our brothers and sisters?
There is much more in my heart, but space and time will not
allow me. |
