Math Night
The Math Department at Northwest Middle School recently organized
a Family Math Night for students in grades six through eight. Students
invited their parents and siblings to attend an evening of fun,
Math related activities. Before the activities started, students,
staff members and families were invited to a special Chili Dinner
provided by Principal Greg Tipton and fellow Math teachers. Students
were asked to select pumpkins at the beginning of the evening. With
their pumpkins, students had to estimate and measure their pumpkins
weight, number of lines, number of seeds. Another requirement was
to see if pumpkins sink or float in water, accurately recording
all data. The evening’s final activity concluded with the students
carving their pumpkins and a contest that selected the most creative
pumpkin designs.
