The Northwest High School Prom was held on Saturday, May
5. Grand March started the evening with couples strutting
their stuff in the school gymnasium in front of a full house
of family, friends and classmates. Couples then headed to
eat at various places in Portsmouth, Ashland and Chillicothe.

Mohawk Idol
Friday, May 11th, the Northwest High
School held the finale for the 2012 Mohawk Idol Competition.
The competition was close with only a 9 vote difference
separating the winner and 2nd place. Both Carly Harness
and Brooklyn Jones performed beautifully during the finale,
but in the end the title of Mohawk Idol fell to sophomore
Preston Hall with a work he had written himself. The first
showing of this year’s senior video and some humorous renditions
from the immediately local “band”, The Replacements
wrapped up the performances. The production of Mohawk Idol
was produced, sponsored, and made possible by the Northwest
Art and Media Club advised by Mr. Chris Enz.
Congratulations Preston!

Attention Seniors
Prior to the graduation
ceremony a slideshow will be shown of the seniors as babies/toddlers
first and then their senior picture will come up beside
it comparing them then and now. If you have not turned in
your pictures, it's not too late. Bring them to Mrs. Moore's
room (right across from guidance) to be scanned ASAP! Calls
have been made to those seniors who have not turned in pictures,
however, there are a few in which the phone number we have
is not working. If you see this message, and you know how
to get a hold of them, please tell them.

Envirothon
Competition
On May 9th at Slate Run
Metro Park near Circleville, Ohio, our two Envirothon Teams
at Northwest High School represented their school with great
honor. Our Junior/Senior team came home with 6th place and
only three points away from going to State Competition.
The Freshman/Sophomore team, with a lot less experience,
placed 14th out of a staggering 51 groups. Congratulations
teams!
Honor's Banquet
The annual honor's banquet was
held on April 30, honoring students with outstanding academic
achievements as well as recognizing our quiz bowl team.
Members of the quiz bowl team gave a speech and presented
Mr. Michael Glenn with a scrapbook in honor of his retirement.

Northwest Hosts Mock Crash
On Thursday, May 3, the Northwest
High School hosted a Mock Disaster which portrayed the events
of a head on car collision. Treated like a true accidents,
EMTs and firefighters raced to the scene and began the process
of clearing the crash site. Staged victims (played by the
drama club) were pulled out of the wreckage and treated.
The drunk driver (Sarah Cremeans) was arrested, one critical
victim (Emily Patterson) was rushed away in a helicopter
and hearses were loaded with the fatalities (Mariah Ross
and Alex Colley). Meant as a wakeup call for students, the
mock crash was a way show the impact of a person’s decisions.
The Northwest High School would like to thank all of those
involved in the Mock Crash with a special thanks to Gene
Johnson for organizing the event.

Clothes Closet
For the past year, Northwest High School has made accessible
a community ‘closet’ for students to have access to anything
they may need. The Clothes Closet has everything from toiletries
and school supplies to shoes and prom dresses available
and all completely for free! In the past, the Clothes Closet
has also organized giveaways for special occasions where
students could come and receive items for themselves or
as gifts for others. Donations of supplies, clothing or
money to the Clothes Closet are welcome and a great help
to the school and students. See Mrs. Arnett at the high
school for access, information or donation drop-offs.
